Trio Arkel

Trio Arkel, originally founded in 2008, is composed of Marie Berard, violinist, Rémi Pelletier, violist, and Winona Zelenka, cellist, who have been sharing their artistry and imagination through the fashioning of a chamber music series that has since garnered an enthusiastic following in their hometown of Toronto. They collaborate with guest artists of international renown to present great masterpieces of the classical chamber music repertoire, from Bach to present-day living composers, in beautiful, eclectic and fascinating programs that transport and move audiences.

    Violin

    Marie Bérard, violin, is best known as the Concertmaster of the Canadian Opera Company Orchestra. She is also a sought-after chamber musician, soloist recording artist and teacher. She is on the faculty of the Glenn Gould School in Toronto and member of the acclaimed ARC ensemble; she also holds the position of Associate Concertmaster of the Mainly Mozart festival orchestra in San Diego, California. Marie is highly regarded as an interpreter of contemporary music; she has recorded concerti by Schnittke and Kucharzyk, and recently performed major works as soloist with Esprit Orchestra, such as “Offertorium” by Sofia Gubaidulina and “Dedication” by Valentin Silvestrov.

  • Rémi Pelletier

    Viola

    Rémi Pelletier joined the Toronto Symphony Orchestra as Associate Principal Viola in September 2019, having served in the New York Philharmonic’s viola section from July 2013, and in the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal beginning in 2007.

    A native of Québec, Mr. Pelletier was a scholarship recipient at Encore School for Strings and the Orford Arts Centre. He performed a recital on CBC’s Debut series. In addition to attending masterclasses with Kim Kashkashian, Roberto Diaz, and others, Rémi Pelletier studied with Michael Tree and Joseph De Pasquale at The Curtis Institute of Music, and with André Roy at McGill University, from which he graduated with the distinction of Outstanding Achievement in Viola Performance, and where he was Principal Viola of the McGill Symphony Orchestra

    Winona Zelenka

    Cello

    Winona Zelenka, cello, is Assistant Principal cellist of the Toronto Symphony; she has also served as Acting Principal Cellist of that orchestra for five seasons, and for the Santa Fe Opera Orchestra. She is a dedicated recitalist, chamber musician and recording artist; her set of Bach Suites released on Marquis Classics in 2009 was nominated for a Juno award, and her second CD, Connections- of French works for cello and piano with Connie Shih, was critically acclaimed. Her performances on video of Bach and Cassado have garnered thousands of views on Youtube.
