"the melodies just surged upon me..."
Trio Arkel presents the 2nd concert of Season 6!
"the melodies just surged upon me.." is our title for concert no. 2, because this direct quote of Antonín Dvoák refers to his Piano Quartet in E flat major, which is our central work for this program. Canadian piano virtuoso Todd Yaniw joins us for an evening of great music from the Romantic period to warm us on a Sunday afternoon at the end of January.
Harpstrings
Trio Arkel presents the first concert of Season 6!
World-renowned harpist Heidi Van Hoesen Gorton joins the ensemble in works that feature this glorious instrument. Central to the largely French program is the trio for harp, violin and cello by Henriette Renié, a legendary virtuoso of the harp and trailblazer for women in the arts.
An eclectic and fascinating program at the end of March features great Canadian soprano Monica Whicher. Into the Fire is an incredible kaleidoscope of a piece written in 2012 by the American composer Jake Heggie, about the life of French sculptress Camille Claudel. Paired with the American Quartet by Dvoák, the opposite side of the coin- a European composer looking at the New World.

Full of Brahms
Saturday, April 29th, 2017 - 7:30 PM
Jeanne Lamon Hall, Trinity St. Paul's Church
427 Bloor Street West
The final concert of Trio Arkel's 4th season is overflowing with the deeply sincere romanticism of one of the greatest and most loved of composers, Johannes Brahms. Guest artists Neil Deland and Peter Longworth join us in the iconic Horn Trio, and we continue with the Piano Quartet No.2 in A Major; said to be heavily influenced by Franz Schubert, it is his lengthiest chamber piece, full of joy and yearning.
Incanto
Tuesday, February 28th, 2017 - 7:30 PM
Jeanne Lamon Hall, Trinity St. Paul's Church
427 Bloor Street West
Trio Arkel's second concert of the 2016/17 season is a sensual celebration of the Impressionist period, as well as a delightful foray into the world of chamber music with voice. Acclaimed lyric baritone Russell Braun joins us in Respighi's "Il Tramonto" and Debussy's "Trois Ballades de François Villon". The duo for violin and cello by Honegger and Debussy's one and only String Quartet in G minor, with guest artists Barry Shiffman on viola and Jamie Kruspe on violin, round out this feast of the senses.
Our concerts begin at 7:30 pm and are prefaced by an entertaining and informative talk given by Marie Berard.
